Vic: Underworld figure slain in street

Melbourne police say underworld figure GRAEME KINNIBURGH was ambushed and shot several
times outside his home in the city's affluent east.

Mr KINNIBURGH was a known associate of slain underworld figure JASON MORAN and implicated
by a coroner in the murder of gangster ALPHONSE GANGITANO in 1998.

Operation Purana Detective Inspector ANDREW ALLEN says police believe Mr KINNIBURGH
had just returned to his home in Kew when he was shot in the street just after midnight
(AEDT).

Inspector ALLEN says it appears Mr KINNIBURGH was ambushed and executed in front of
family members and died before police and ambulance crews arrived.

He says a green car was seen leaving the scene shortly after the shooting, and was
found burnt out about two kilometres away.

Inspector ALLEN says Operation Purana will take on the investigation and check if there
are links to any other matters they are investigating.
