QLD:Uni scandal chief to stand down sooner

BRISBANE, Dec 9 AAP - The university chief at the centre of an enrolment scandal will
resign five months earlier than planned.

University of Queensland vice-chancellor Paul Greenfield and deputy vice-chancellor
Michael Keniger are leaving their posts after a probe found irregularities in the enrolment
of a student known to them.

The student was admitted to a medicine course despite not having met all criteria.

Mr Greenfield was to have stayed on at the university until July 2012 while Mr Keniger's
resignation takes effect on December 31 this year.

However, Mr Greenfield will now stand down on January 13, the Crime and Misconduct
Commission said in a statement.

"The CMC has ... been involved in ongoing dialogue with the university and has today
been formally advised that the vice chancellor's resignation has been brought forward,"

the statement said.

The move means the university does not need to take disciplinary action, it said.

An internal investigation reportedly found no evidence of misconduct against Prof Greenfield
or Prof Keniger, but did find evidence of an admission irregularity.

The CMC said it had been closely monitoring UQ's handling of the matter, which involved
the improper offer of a place to a student in the university's 2011 medical program.

"Under the Crime and Misconduct Act 2001, CEOs of public sector agencies are obliged
to forward all complaints of suspected official misconduct to the CMC," it said.

The UQ chancellor forwarded the complaint to the crime body on October 4.

The CMC said it was continuing to talk with the university on the matter.
