VIC: Man suffers spinal injuries in church fall

MELBOURNE, Aug 31 AAP - A workman seriously injured his spine when he crashed through a
church ceiling and landed on a row of pews in western Melbourne today.

The 51-year-old was working in the ceiling of the Uniting Church in Kensington when he fell
through the ceiling.

A Metropolitan Ambulance Service spokeswoman said the man fell 10 metres at the McCracken
Street site before landing on the church pews.

"He suffered serious spinal injuries and was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital in a
serious condition," the spokeswoman said.

"He was working in the ceiling space, but I don't know exactly what he was working on."

She said the man was conscious when he was found.

He was expected to be later transferred to the Austin Hospital.
