CANBERRA, Feb 26 AAP - Australia has called on China and other nations to play a greaterrole in the North Korea nuclear crisis, saying America cannot go it alone.

Foreign Minister Alexander Downer met with US Secretary of State Colin Powell in Seoul,South Korea, where he tried to convince the US to engage in direct talks with North Koreaover the nuclear stand off.

But Washington is opposed to bilateral talks because of the threat to regional stabilityand global non-proliferation efforts.
