Qld; No rape charges to be laid against Brisbane Lions

BRISBANE, Aug 31 AAP - Charges will not be laid against any Brisbane Lions player over
an alleged rape of a woman in Britain last year, the AFL club's solicitor said today.

Michael Bosscher said British police had advised that they had completed their investigations.

"They have advised that there will be no charges forthcoming in relation to the incident,"

he said in a statement.

"The club has fully supported the players throughout the investigation and were always
confident that the decision would be made to not proceed with charges against any player."

Scotland Yard detectives travelled to Brisbane in April to investigate claims by an
Australian woman that she was raped by a Brisbane Lions player at a London hotel on October
6 last year.

A number of Lions players were in Britain at the time for the Rugby World cup.

A Lions spokesman said the club would make no further comment on the matter.
